AGA KHAN PALACE
The Aga Khan Palace is also known as the Gandhi National Museum and is a part of the Indian freedom struggle. It served as a prison for national leaders like Mahatma Gandhi during the Quit India Movement in 1942. The palace was built in 1892 by Sultan Mohammed Shah, Aga Khan III. The palace was an act of charity by the Sultan who wanted to help the poor in the neighboring areas of Pune at a time when they were drastically hit by famine. The Aga Khan Palace was donated to India by Aga Khan IV during 1969.

Agakhan Palace is situated 2 km away from Bund Garden in Yerwada on Pune-Nagar Road.
The palace is closely linked to the Indian freedom movement as it served as a prison for Mahatma Gandhi, his wife Kasturba Gandhi, his secretary Mahadev Desai, as well as Miraben, Pyarelal Nair, Sarojini Naidu and Dr. Sushila Nayar. It is also the place where Kasturba Gandhi and Mahadev Desai died and have their Samadhis located over there. Some of Mahatma Gandhi’s ashes have also been laid to rest here. In 2003, Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) declared the place as a monument of national importance.
The palace comprises of five halls and large verandahs. Although the palace is architecturally Islamic yet it includes hints of Italian art with many arches. The palace also contains a gallery which has belongings of Gandhiji like clothes, footwear and a few more. The palace archives a number of photos and portraits depicting glimpses from the life of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation of India, and other personalities of the Indian freedom struggle. The palace is situated on Nagar Road in Kalyani Nagar.
